This video will show you how to check your negotiated local area network speed in Windows 10. This is the theoretical maximum network speed that you computer could utilize. This is not the same as your internet speed, but would limit your internet speed if the internet is faster than this value (as in, your computer shows a 100mb connection, but you can get 150mb from your ISP).
This essentially will show you what the connection speed is between you, and whatever device connects you to the network.
So if your computer has a gigabit network card, but this shows 100mb, then you can assume the router/switch you are connected to is 100mb, and you will need to update it to get gigabit. Or alternatively, if you know it is also a gigabit router/switch, you may need to update your cabling (Good quality Cat5e or Cat6 for gigabit)
This can also show you your negotiated WIFI LAN speed, so you can see if you wireless speed is keeping you from quickly transferring files over your local network.

Does the type of ethernet cable limit the speeds I get? I am supposed to get 5ghz from Ezee fiber, if I connect through ethernet. I'm showing that I'm getting 1000/1000 speeds on ethernet using the method you described in your video. I suspect I need to replace the Cat6 portion of the link with Cat8.
For example, I have:
Cat8 between my computer and my switch
Cat8 from my switch to my wall
But Cat6 from my wall to the wall where my router is located
Cat8 to from the wall to my router
Nice one
if my router port is 10g and my computer port support 2.5g should i lower the port capacity to help the speed connexion?
my wi-fi is currently better than my ethernet because my router is rather old ( 2011 or 2014 old ) so the lan-ports are 100Mbits, while my Wi-fi connection is around 866Mbits ( idk if it's directly to the router or the Powerline Access Point which is Newer from 2017 )
Exelent sir
thanks…
Thank you
I hate that shit. Give me a writeup and not a damn video.
Even though I have gigabit ports and expensive cpe devices still I can't reach over 100 mbps spead in my lan network.
wifi has zerp to do with lan speeds you are confusing enough dont mix up the two
Thanks for the great solution. But i've one problem if anyone can solve. My software system is being install in the admin server. I want to connect my lan network system to 3 client pc. But only one pc can read my data system stabily mean while the other two pcs running very slow to access my data. Should i upgrade my router from the pc server or any other solution?
exactly the video i was looking for
Great video.
Do you need official windows for this?
Hey! All the values are same for my pc but my phone is getting 200mbps over the same WiFi.
Great. Thank you. very clear.
I'm getting 1000/1000 on ethernet and 780/780 on wifi – great. When i check a broadband speeds checker on the same fiber modem the Wifi is a 10th of the speed of the Ethernet. Even when I place the laptop right next to the modem.
Any ideas how I can get faster Wi-Fi?
(Im getting downloads of 110mbs Ethernet and 10mbs Wifi).
I know its a slightly different topic, but everyone prefers to use wifi these days.)
thank u i only wanted to check the speed
fuck this tutorial
Lol my laptop doesnt show it has 1gb on properties at best 100 mb duplex… But when i put gygabit ethernet cable with auto negotiate, than it shows on status that it has 1gb.
http://www.myfiber.co.in is the best way to check your internet speed. with this, you can get to know how much is your upload and download speed is?
not so simple wat on my laptop there is no option itsays open network and sharing settings and comes up with lots of options dont have a clue what is means
If I see '1gbps' in my settings menu, does that mean that the cables also support that connection or does it just state the connection type both in my PC and router?
Hey are you from malaysia?
what would cause this to be dramatically different from speedtest.net test. I am getting 1GBPS on ethernet status but when I do speedtest I only get 20 MBS
