Description: Tektronix 2465B Calibration Series: Pre-Calibration DAC Adjustment Video. My Serial Number is below B04999 so I will be doing the procedure for that. The B05000 may be the same I didn’t check.
Prior to doing the Calibration on the 2465B the Service Manual asks you do some Pre-Calibration Adjustments. Here’s one the them; setting the DAC Reference Voltage.
If you have not done the LVPS voltage checks and set the +5vdc reference I suggest you do that now: Here’s the link for that video:
Just a quick Cautionary Note: The Calibration Adjustments is very long, laborious and should not be attempted if you don’t have the equipment and if you are not familiar with repairing electronic equipment. The oscilloscope may have lethal voltages present when the outer cover on the oscilloscope is removed. So, if you attempt this procedure you do so at your own risk and with the understanding you know what you are doing and are willing to accept those risks.
Note: Some of the pages may differ depending on what serial number your scope is or version of the PDF you have. If you need a copy of the 2465B you can do an internet search and download one. If you want a quality CD hard copy You can buy one from Artekmedia for around $14.00 bucks. It’s well worth it, they do an awesome job on all their manuals. Nope I don’t get a commission for referring them.
– I’ll be using the 2465B & 2467B Tektronix Service Manual P/N: 070-6863-01 pages 5-3, and approximately pdf page 455 & 456 for R2010 the +5vdc DAC Ref Voltage adjustment and test point.
I am by no means an expert with the repair or the manual of this scope. However, since I couldn’t find the information without spending hours looking for it I decided to compile some of the information in one spot. This is just what I’ve learned so far and wanted to try and help. I hope this helps someone just starting out with these scopes.

Thanks for watching. Best Wishes n Blessings. Keith
Hi Keith, I really enjoy watching your calibration videos. It would be nice if you had a chance to do a full calibration video on the Tek 2465B. I'm thinking about replacing the lithium battery and electrolytic caps. Mine is below SN: 49999. Don't have all the equipment for a complete calibration and am afraid to lose or mess-up the cal if I do a partial cal. Your videos give me the confidence and understanding to prevent the pitfalls. Thank you.
Hi Keith, really like your videos. Have you decided if you will do a full calibration on the Tek 2465B. Plan on replacing battery and caps. Don't have all the equipment for a complete cal but would like to know what can be done and if I should not replace caps on all boards other than the low and high voltage boards.
I am an old NAVY AT and Compaq component level tech from the 80s and recently picked up two Tektronix 2465 scopes. One seems fine the other might need to have the caps replaced. Do you have any advice on where to start with calibrating these beasts? Thanks!

Hi Sir I get 2465B from my dear friend ho died from cancer few month before… i have problem with oscilloscope and for legacy and memory i wont repair.. can you help me to fine manual and anther stuff… best regards..
Oh, and God bless you!
Hi I just replaced the 4 leaky caps on the A5 board which went well however
my readout on the crt was about 2 gradual s high and I could not see the top line
so I jump to Cal and went to cal 07 and re-centered the readout which also went well
I then flicked through cal 01-09 without making any adjustments
I powered the scope down and jump cal to normal
Now on startup I have test 04 fail 02
I do not have the gear to do a full calibration however I do not beleive the cailbration data is lost or incorrect
except for perhaps cal 07 concidering I have made no other adjustments.
Is there a easy fix for this or does it now require a full caibration
My Tektronix is 2465 DMS, so I do not know how much different is my scope to yours. I was not able to see much at first on my scope's CRT, but after turning it on couple of times and doing the SELF-TEST…. I could not see the text, just a shrunken version of few lines and some PIXELS that should be text, I assume….. But after I turned it on/off and unplugged it several times and while unplugged I push the ON/OFF switch (this is useful on some laptops/desktop PC's) I was able to get the text and some lines. BUT the scope doesn't work well, since the build in signal doesn't do much. I'm open to any suggestion and or ideas what can I do to fix it. I'm not very skilled at this, I never took a scope apart, but I know how much I don't know, so I'm looking over here and watching many youtube videos and Googling stuff….. Also I need a searchable PDF, the one from Tektronix is just scanned pages into PDF like format, like pictures. I know I should be able to convert it and do OCR… but if someone has done all the work, I could use that version. Thanks in an advance! Thanks Keith for your contribution!
Very great video to show steps for calibration.
If this took you 20 minutes how long did CAL 01 take you? 😉
HI Keith thanks for your lenghly detailed reply. Unfortunately the Unit is an early model and the lithium battery is down to 2.2 V. As a result all cal is lost! I am ordering a replacement battery tomorrow and in the mean time did some of the cal checks not stored in Ram. So far everything checks perfectly including the DAC voltages.
So it looks like I am gonna have to do a full recalibration. This should be a nice addition to the workshop as I don't have an analogue scope here.
Hi Keith just bought a 2445a scope with a few errors on startup. This series was very helpful as it looks very similar to the A but half the bandwidth.
Hello Keith, sorry for being silent for so long…my exwife is ill again, and and and. But I really like your scenes on paper – all digital videos are boring 😉
Interesting video thanks.
