I was not expecting this, prepared for the worst but man this sucker is smooth! So far anyway…

16.04 is not fast at all. With no applications open, the ram usage is 1.2 gb WTF. this was a bug and there is still no fix. Stay with ubuntu 14.04. I have 8gb of ram and with 4 tabs of chromium and sublime text open its super slow.
Snaps seem nifty, but so far from what I've read, it's not as secure as advertized (shared privately with you on G+, Tos an exploit using a teddybear as a cover as a clever way it's been bypassed – http://hackaday.com/2016/04/22/this-teddy-bear-steals-your-ubuntu-secrets/). I'm on the fence until snaps can be proven secure. right now it hasn't been yet. If Unity on 16.04 has been stable and fast, would you swap your quadcore from Xubuntu to this new Ubuntu as well? Great stuff as always Tos, keep up the great work!
Listening to Alan Pope (aka "Popey" in the JB IRC) on Linux Unplugged … I get the impression the "technology for snaps" is in place, or adjusted with updates on this now LTS release though overall it is still a "work in progress" and just to be patience about it… it may be awhile before it's fully ready though. I am thinking they added something to let them just update a few things and then down the road people still on the 16.04 LTS can take advantage of it.
I wonder if 16.04's speed will translate over to Linux Mint 18 (which will be based off of Ubuntu 16.04, if I'm not mistaken)…… for Cinnamon, Mate, and XFCE.
I have not tried it myself, but I am hearing some sharply differing views. You are very positive. One of the other distro review channels was very negative. His objection was that there seem to be a lot of minor bugs, at least when you start to use themes and make customisations of the desktop. He says some of these are things that used to be wrong back in the day, but had been fixed. And now we have an LTS, and our bugs are back… He admits a lot of this stuff will get cleaned up, but asks why it went out this way at all… He showed Unity and (latest) GNOME, and showed themes that do get applied to some aps and half get applied to others and not at all to some, max/min buttons on the right in some aps and on the left in others, colours all over the shop…Check this one out. https://youtu.be/c5Li052ZBN8

Mathew Moore thought this release was garbage and for him window frames were not working right.

i dont have a machine to run it on sadly. i only have an old Surface that will not work with Ubuntu.
