Trends come and go and I have mixed feelings about them BUT it’s never a bad thing to be aware of them – it only expands your creative toolbox.
I also find it quite fun trying to decipher why a trend is a trend. I find this activity alone helps develop my “design IQ”.
Whether trends excite you or not, I think that typography trends in particular should be something you’re aware of. Here’s why: Type is by far the most important content type on a web page. It’s what users will go hunting for first. It’s what users will consume the most and what they’ll seek to provide clarity. If you can provide a seamless “typographic experience” then you’re already well on your way to delivering a well-designed website.
What are your thoughts on these trends? Let me know in the comments!

What are the red fonts of bms united? Thanks
sans serif and serif combo looks better
It's because Serif fonts are easier to read (the lines help the saccadic movements). Adding Serifs will make scanning slightly more difficult and in theory it will increase readability and understanding of the headlines. This is why all books have serifs as the main text and sans-serifs as headlines and why it was the opposite for online text for a very long time. These days we do not even read the headlines anymore and just scan everything (we also have much harder time reading books than we used to, but that is besides the point). Studies have shown that serifs in certain places will improve conversion for example.
Look for Geomanist. I stumbled upon this font today…
To be fair…Trending…is the wrong word. Just about zero developers are doing any of that…for clients. I can't imagine trying to sell a local business a site with type like that…owner be like…bye
It's great to see this on the large wide screen monitors. How do you see this trend moving in the mobile device world?
1 I dont like at all,
3 is nothing new, probably used in the past on portfolios, I like the outline then fill option. but overall, no.
2 I like this and the reasons you mentions, only concern is desktop is great but may have change when viewed on mobiles to rounded font.
I noticed from example the H1 was sans and the rest sans serif, so as long as you can use the second font if required then great.
Don't use more fonts than required!
I love your content but your audio is sibilant and hurts my ears.
I just started with with web design, and I wonder if all these web styles can be created by scratch like using CSS and HTML or do most people use softwares instead? I seem to have difficulties of doing simple thing like lining up nav header links with a logo.
I really liked the previous version of the Flux Academy website, especially the typography. I'm curious as to why you chose to move away from the extended typeface in the newer version?
