I host my own file and media server, and my 25mbps upload speed really cripples it.
In Germany there are some places where u still get 2 MBPS not even 16
I have 300mb fiber and that’s just fine for 3 people
I have 1gbps at home..
I love it tbh. Nothing EVER buffers even with both my kids at home watching YouTube or downloading games/movies and my wife scrolling instagram etc.
We had 100mbps before and that occasionally buffered but its only $5 a month more for the extra 900 so why not?
as an australian i don't even need to watch the video to tell u no it ain't
My Uploadspeed is normaly double or tripple of my Downloadspeed. Any anwser to that?
the price for a 1gig is so high for 2gb/s it's 37€ for me
I checked my DNS stuff and my default was the best. I use cloudflare for my phones but otherwise not necessary for me in general.
Great video! I live in Australia with a lightning fast 100mbps download speed and thats more than enough for 3 people streaming youtube concurrently. One thing you should have also talked about is how alot of "gaming" routers are absolutely overkill UNLESS you have a gigbit connection, yes the cheaper ones can slow down but you've only got 100mbps, it doesn't have to be very fast.
I have a ryzen 7700X and I start with like 500mb download speeds on steam and them drop to 50mb. Can someone tell me if the whole CPU thing is my problem?
if i can save 10 dollars a month that would save me over 1 million dollars a year? alright i know math and if im correct saving 10 dollars a month would save me atleast 2 cups of coffee in todays economy
I didn't know 50kbit/s-10mbit/s was too fast
DO NOT USE (Gibson Research DNS tool) it has malware
i have 80 mbit @ 20€ a month. yea idk if that's overpaying the isp.
You have to talk about french ISP "free" who just released a 8Gb/s symmetrical fiber connection for less than 50€/month, public price, with netflix, disney+, amazon prime included
I'm not going to lie, we pay for 10gig internet, but we got it at an introductory offer at $60/mo for 2 years, and after that we plan on switching to 1gig from the same provider for $60/mo, and I will say, we definitely don't use anywhere near our full 10gig but it is nice to have it.
Showing HTTP requests without touching HTTP/2 and HTTP/3 at all? Thats a big impact on "many small files", and its a bit misleading to not make a disclaimer at all, or make a simple statement about that…
Any self respecting computer geek HARDWIRES their house or deals with extra long cat6 cables running along their apartment's baseboards and under all the doors 😎
I actually upgraded to gigabit cable internet 2 years ago and have never looked back. You get so spoiled moving up from even 300 mbit; the difference in download times is still shocking sometimes!
PS: Good seeing the DNS benchmark from Gibson Research make a brief appearance again. I always recommend using that tool once every few years to find the best DNS server responses 👍
I upgraded to 1gig fiber right to my house. My computer gets around 950 up and down and wifi devices get around 500 up and down. I went from 300mb down and 10 up for $99 a month to gigabit for $70 a month so it was and upgrade and cheaper.
For me personally, In India my wifi plan is like 10$ a month for 100 Mbps plan. which me and my cousin's family share by using an additional router. so yeah its really great!
10mbps truly is way too fast
25 years ago I was on dial-up.
I have 300mbps for 9 years now and it's more than enough. I'd rather pay more to get an equal upload than to get faster download.
Please I just want upload speed that doesn't suck balls

80 Mbps too fast?
This is all very true. I work in IT at a location where we provide network connections for exhibits, conferences, and meetings. For 90% of people you don't need more than 10Mbps for a single device. We will have attendee networks for conferences with 1500-2000 people connected. All of those devices will share a 150mbps limit and the network rarely will hit that limit. About the only time where you need more speed is for live streaming, gaming, downloading, or uploading and even with those you typically don't need more than 20mbps. Granted uploads and downloads for large files will take a while, but the vast majority of people are not download long out uploading files over 500mb (gamers and YouTubers are about the only exception) which only takes a few seconds at 20mbps.
I need high speed for my Usenet discussions.
However 250 is enough
Please where's your old video about DNS. And the other one you said you'd link below
This is wildly misleading.
@10:50 there's also a good chunk of fibre companies using GPON which has asymmetric upload speeds also.
What are your thoughts on Google Fiber? They are growing in the US
For 5 months i was on a 200 mbps connection
Now switched to 40mbps
I am happy with this 40mbs
considering it is super cheap
For me anything above 16mbps is fast
Linus: your internet’s too fast!
Me struggling to maintain 7mb/s download speeds…
I'm sorry, but I'm not impressed at all. I have direct fiber at home, and of course I'm going to choose that over the alternative. What does it matter if I get the full gig or not? And why would I pay for a VPS when I can still host servers at home, using hardware of my choosing, and putting my internet to better use? And who cares if we violate the ISPs "terms of service?"
I literally cancelled my internet service because $101 a month is crazy after paying $55 2 years ago
40 Mbps is fast wow
Ngl I have dreams about your segue, to our sponsor…
Ridge!
There's four myths on modern wallets. Myth number one is that modern wallets come with a high price tag and a low quality. But the ridge has revolutionized the wallet's lens using only high quality materials like carbon fiber or titanium.
Myth number two is that you have to sacrifice style for function. Now this one I find pretty mind-blowing because the ridge has over 30 colors and styles, meaning you can rock your wallet and show off your style at the same time. Myth number three is that metal wallets are sharp and uncomfortable.
So the ridge actually has rounded edges ensuring that not only is it comfortable in your hand but it feels even better when carried in your pocket. And myth number four is that modern wallets are too slim and hard to use. But guess what?
The ridge has found the perfect balance. With their smart design you have easy access to all of your cards by just simply fanning them out and slipping cash in the back. Forget what you're hearing about modern wallets and find yours at ridge.com/pages/linus
Thank god for this video.
