The story of the past year in satellite internet has been the story of Starlink.
SpaceX’s massive satellite constellation is now serving over 250,000 customers around the world – and SpaceX has kept in the news with a constant stream of new developments, and launches expanding the Starlink constellation have been steady every few weeks.
In particular, SpaceX enabling roaming via a new “Service Portability” feature has made Starlink at last an option worth considering for RVers and Cruisers to add as part of their mobile internet arsenals.
But even though it may seem like it at times – SpaceX is not the only company aiming to transform global connectivity with next-generation satellite technology.
We’ve got the latest on the long-term roadmap for SpaceX’s Starlink, and we take a closer look at all the rest of the satellite industry players that are racing to catch up.
Will SpaceX be getting any real competition any time soon?
And will satellite internet options ever be able to fully replace cellular data plans?

Starlink is worth $110 a month because you get 200mbps unlike my Viasat $90 a month for 30mbps (only get 1mpbs though) and 700 ping on video games. People who don’t like Starlink just don’t like Elon Musk
Great update… these new satellite constellations are going to revolutionize the internet in ways we can't even imagine at the moment.
Game over. Installed Starlink on my boat in Florida. 150-600 mb/s download, 15-200mb/s upload. Unlimited relocations. Linked to existing router. Next step sail the coast to the Chesapeake. Then relocate to my home in the mountains of Utah. We have ditched Iridium. DirecTV and our ISP in Utah are next. Saving hundreds each month with Starlink. Bravo Elon.
Thank you for providing clarity to this topic. Detailed, informative, and trustworthy updates are difficult to find!
Space x or Tesla, always over promise & under deliver when it comes to time frames. So I wouldn't count on that, 1 launch every 2 weeks by the end of 22. Nevertheless, thanks for the info.
Is anyone having problems with the detachable cable not going back into the satellite 📡 or just us? It’s a shame there is no contact phone number for help. Been waiting a few days for a response from the online portal.
Portable service is a pipe dream because because cells can carry a limited no of customers and they can not allow people to move it will overload the cells. I do not expect moble service until all the satellite are in service so never
The starship will never be approved for launch in tx due to the endangeted turtles do listen to there press releases
I would also warn you that the laser deal is untested vaperware just like the tesla truck and robot we were promised. It will likely not work.
Told you so. ………i warned everyone the prices and data would not be the same as beta. Now im warning you that SpaceX is at war wth rushia and rusha will find a way to shut it down.
March 30, 2022. Starlink page said I could get it, but now they want $695.00. That's a pretty big price increase.
Great info. Cheers!
Thank you for the great info…
Deposit Feb 21 and waiting. now get this email: Due to excessive levels of inflation, the price of the Starlink kit is increasing from $499 to $549 for deposit holders, and $599 for all new orders, effective today. In addition, the Starlink monthly service price will increase from $99 to $110.
No dish, no service and it goes up.
What would really help is knowledge about what latitudes are coming and when. I’m in lat 32 and my Starlink arrival has changed delivery dates by over 2 years and I have no clue how much longer I’m waiting. Very frustrating.
ViaSat won't be doing shit this year. They sit on their asses and charge out the ass at the same time. Another thing is ViaShit and HughesNet limit data monthly. They would have to go unlimited regardless.
I checked for my location. Not available until 2023. Yet theres a few within a 3 mile radius of me who have it. Starlink is a joke.
Thanks for the video
If Viasat, and Huges net want to compete they need to get rid of their data caps, and throttling, and lower their prices. I can deal with high latency, and never play online games again or do video calls if they offered that, but then again their speeds are horrendous you are offered speeds up to 25mbps at the max. Max is 25mbps? and its not even Guaranteed so you're most likely to get speeds from 1 to 5 (at least I did) and then you are only really abled to "enjoy" that for maybe a week till they limit you to an unusable speed for the rest of the month till your next billing cycle, or to pay way more money to get it 50 more gbs that won't even last you a day if you wanted to watch a movie, and all of this comes at the price of $150 for 150 gbs for maybe speeds of 25mbps. I know people are mad at starlink for raising the price, I am too, but I would much rather pay 110 a month for unlimited low latency speeds of 25 mbps to 200 mbps (because I have no other option) that i can use for video calls, gaming, and watching netflix, hulu, and youtube than 150 a month with a monthly equipment fee for a cap of 150 that would not last a week with a family of 5, that you cant even use for video calls, any streaming service, and gaming, forget about gaming. Its a shame that one web is partnering with huges net, I guess they were unaware that huges not is garbage, and has an awful reputation. nobody is gonna switch to them if all they are offering is the same issues but with lower latency. Do you know if huges net, and viasat are going to get rid of their data caps, and throttling, and lower their prices?
What would be the current best mobile internet option for an OTR truck driver? I switch trucks every 4 to 5 months.
Haha, at first glance I thought that starling was a whiteboard!!!
Thank you so much for this update. It's always so exciting. I am thrilled with my Starlink. I've had it for nearly a year and a half. I live in Montana and could only get Hughesnet in the past.
Great video! I appreciate all of the information!
Can we cross borders with Starlink?
My boat moves at only 5 miles per hour (sailboat) so can be considered slow portability lol! as opposed to true mobility!
The price of the receiver should go down quite a bit in about 3 months the microchips needed to build it will be come way more reasonable and available
However I've heard of much higher increases in price and that severely disappoints me I was expecting more from Elon Musk
Actually it's the opposite the ultimate goal of Starship is to go to mars and the proceeds from starlink will pay for it yes the Starship would help finish starlink sooner Mobility was always a selling point of Starline
No Starlink service in Central PA yet, what gives. I have been waiting over a year now . 17051
Just ordered Dishy using your guide. Willing to take the risk on the variables you explained. Let's see how this goes!! Thanks as always for the fantastic and timely information.
Please pardon my lack of knowledge on the subject. I've been wondering about the radiation we're exposed to with all this modern communication technology. Can you tell me anything about that? Thank you, and thanks for the amazing amount of information you break down for viewer!
This is a quote from PC magazine "What About Congestion as More Users Join? That's something we've been wondering about. In September 2020, financial analysts at Cowen released a report that estimated Starlink will only have enough capacity to serve 485,000 users even if it has 12,000 satellites in orbit." Based on the numbers I have seen this seems pretty close.
Each satellite has 20 gbps capacity. 20000 mbps divided by 100 mbps equals 200 users per satellite. And now they are selling business internet at 500 mbps. That would mean 40 users per satellite! My guess is they don't expect everyone to be on at once. So they will oversell each satellite. Which means when it gets busy things will slow down. Sounds like Hughes net with less latency.
Plus if it gets really congested who gets bumped? The business users or the individual users?
When will the viasat-3 be available
Don’t believe anything Hugh’s net says. Not a trustworthy company. They been lying for years.
Just received my equipment a week ago. Actually used Quartzsite as my 'home' and had the equipment shipped to my home in Phoenix which has been at capacity for over a year. Received the equipment in only four days. Drove out to Quartzsite to setup and register and then came home again. Never expected it to connect in Phoenix; however, just for fun I set it in the back yard and turned it on. Voilà it connected in moments and has been running perfectly for the last week. Leaving Saturday for a trip to the Midwest and anxious to test it on the way.
A deeper dive into AST SpaceMobile service shows its will be a game changer. Partnered with the best telecom companies.
Unbelievably detailed information. Thank you so much.
As Dylan says (just below): Amazing and detailed update, thank you! Very much appreciated.
The wait is killing me…..better be worth it
Starlink deposit paid Feb 21, eta mid to late fall 2021. Still no starlink new eta states mid 2022. Now I get increased equipment cost as well as higher monthly bill. 🧐
You are awesome. Thanks
Amazing and detailed update, thank you! I could not agree more, Starlink is the perfect compliment to my Verizon PUDP, all managed within a Pepwave balance 20x, where I can overcome minor drop outs/outages in one place using speed fusion cloud. I get a lot of questions about why I keep my cell plans and its all due to the fact that Starlink has a long way to go in terms of being a sole provider of internet if your career depends on it, but that doesn't mean its not my flagship connection 😎
I have Starlink, I DONT care about the hole world. I would like to see the USA on the road. For my RV.
No mention of Telesat Lightspeed? They'll probably be operational before Kuiper eh?
I got mine at the end of January so I had a month or two of $99.00 service. I’m canceling my Dish Network and an air card for my computers. It’s still going to be less and faster. I then will be able to connect all the TV’s and computers without having to pay for each.
I’ve moved mine twice over 100 miles and not have to change my service address. I’ll see how it does when I move 1,100 miles home.
It’s still “unofficial “. Are you willing to risk $600 plus $110 per month?
