In this video I am going to talk about the 2013 new YouTube One Channel design. Here I will share my understanding of the new design and various dimensions of the channel art. Also I would like to share the GIMP template I have created; so that you don’t have to spend much time figuring out various dimensions. You can just take the template, change colors based on your need, add custom logo and save as an image to use as your 2013 new One Channel banner art.

Introduction:
YouTube has made lots of change on the overall interface or channel design in last couple of years. Every time it happened, mostly users and publishers initially used to express mixed reaction. People get used to one specific design, now when they are given a new design, they are not used to it and they do not find things in the same way they used to find earlier. In such cases people used to criticize changed or absence of features in new design rather than appreciating various advantages and improvements in it.
The same thing happened this time in the beginning of 2013 when this new YouTube One Channel design has released and given option to try it. I see many videos, comments, blogs are talking about this design that it is not good, they don’t like it. There are many well-known YouTubers are still using the old design whereas many already using it. I recently switched to this new design. It took me some time to switch; not because I don’t like it, it is because I didn’t find enough time to figure out all these details and getting a channel art prepared. Now that I am here, let me share what I find and what I think about this design.
Understanding:
This 2013 new YouTube One Channel design is mainly focusing on following various aspects:
• Providing same look and feel of channels across various types of devices like computer, mobile, tablet, television etc. In recent days where internet is access from smart phone, tablet or even from Smart TV has increased enormously. So this step towards the new ages I guess is necessary.
• A better integration of channels with the YouTube main page.
• More professional look of channels.
• Providing more control with various new options for publishers to arrange their content on the channel.
Let me highlight various sections of this new one channel design:
• Left and right widgets are same as YouTube home page, your channel is in the middle.
• On top of the channel there is a space for channel art. I will explain more details about this new channel art below.
• Then the next section is for a featured video. This section has a new feature where you can set different view for people that are already subscribed to your channel. You can play a trailer of your channel for people that are not subscribed to your channel.
• Then down below you can add various sections with various details like — Recent Uploads, Specific Playlists, Popular Uploads, List of Playlists, Likes, Recent Posts, Recent Activities, Tags etc. Also these sections can be arranged horizontally or vertically.
So what do you think about this one channel design? Please use the comment section to share your experience. Check the video for more details.

If you prepare a channel art based on the specification I mentioned in this video and your are trying to apply it to your channel – there it will show how the channel art is going to look like in Computer, Smart TV and Mobile. There is a screen shot shown in this video at around 2:05. Please pause there to see how my channel art going to look like on various device. You can get an idea about channel art from there. Let me know if you are looking for more information.
In Smart TV the entire channel art (size 2560×1440) will be displayed. Now it is up to you what content you would like to put where. Keep in mind about other devices which will display only limited area from your entire channel art.
If you are trying to get a banner done, download the template from my website. Add some channel related picture, logo, text etc … save it as image and upload as your channel banner. If you tell me about your channel like what kind of video you upload, I should be able to make some suggestion.
Thanks for your comment and letting us know about your opinion. I do not have any tutorial for creating a banner as there is no specific rule/ guideline for creating it. It depends upon subject of your channel, depends upon what you like to display on the banner, your own creativity etc. I would suggest you to look at other similar channels for reference, download the template from Description of this video and try to put together some relevant images, logos and text that describe your channel.
you are welcome !!
It's good to know that the video was helpful. Thanks for checking my video and subscribing.
Very helpful, thanks! I googled: "new youtube channel design template 2013" to find this video (2nd link) just fyi. I subscribed because this video was so helpful. As for the design itself I prefered the old design but the new one is better for multiple devices I guess.
While you are logged on to YouTube, go to "My Channel" from top right, your channel will be displayed. Take cursor on the banner, there will be a pencil symbol shown at top right corner of your banner. Click on the pencil or edit symbol and you will get 2 options – "edit links" and "edit channel arts". Use edit links option to add various links. Alternatively you can directly go to About page and there you will get option to edit/ add various links. Hope this will help.
I'm trying to find out how to place a clickable link on the banner, like for Facebook, Twitter and the official website.. haven't figured that out, help!
This is what I understood:
1. When someone already subscribed comes to your channel: It shows them "what to watch next" in this section. That does not play automatically. A video that is not yet watched by user is picked up based on some logic. Also the video is smaller in size.
2. When someone not subscribed comes to your channel: It plays the video that you set as trailer. This is bigger in size and also plays automatically.
There is no other option to control these behavior.
Thanks for your comment and yes; I already got a mail from YouTube today saying "Your channel will switch to YouTube One Channel soon" in next two weeks. So its coming 🙁
how do you make a video start automatically in this new style?
very nice, I will change to this new design soon.
nice review !!
