In this video I’ll break down the four fundamental roles necessary for building a website or app. Do you want to build a website, but you don’t know where to start? Do you want to hire someone to build an iPhone app, but you’re not sure how much it will cost or how to get started? Let’s get started!
The four most important roles here are user experience, information architecture, design, and development. In short, user experience (UX) person is doing the website planning along with the information architecture (IA), who’s taking the ideas and putting them on some kind of communication (aka. wireframes and/or storyboards).
The IA then hands it to the designer, who’s job it is to add typography and the visual styles. Finally, the web developer takes all of those ideas and writes them as code (HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Python, etc).
In this video I use the word “roles” because in fact these are roles, and not people. What I mean is, if you’re a startup and you’re just two people, you may have to do two of these roles or all of these roles and learn a little bit about each of them. Or if you’re at a big web design agency and you have a massive budget, you may find that there are teams of people all assigned to the UX role.
Not sure who to hire first? Check out my Programming for Non-Programmers course at One Month.
Within the first hour of the course you’ll have a much clearer, and confident understanding of the programming languages, as well as who to hire, and how to manage a technical team.
Now that’s a great informative video. How refreshing! Thank you for that Sir.
Did anyone else notice the wine bottle moved from :06 to 0:16 ?
