I quit IG over a year ago and switched to Youtube, and as a small artist trying to build my audience the move has been actually LIFE CHANGING.
That’s why I’m sharing my tips for how to grow an audience on youtube for artists and creative types, so we can all ditch instagram and finally find creative fulfillment while avoiding the devastating effects of art burnout.
But getting my first one thousand subscribers on my art channel took me OVER A YEAR. I know. But the process of creating consistent content for months while waiting to hit that subscriber milestone led me to so many realizations about what kind of content and strategy succeeds on Youtube.
If you watch this video and the playlist I’ll be linking below, you’ll 100% be able to grow an audience on youtube faster than I did, and it just might change your life.

Amazing video Kelsey! Your positive attitude and outlook on life is beautiful 😃💖
I think this would be really important information to put as a disclaimer rin your other videos. I just watched the other video and downloaded stuff and set up the search engine thing then just saw this. It's a little confusing ahaha. Sinc eI already downloaded it all I'm going to try it but it's good to know in the other vid
I think im leaning more towards youtube than IG for the rest of the year thanks to this. Appreciate it!
very solid advice! I am builind my channel too and haven't does much with the search engine stuff. But I can see how it would be useful! I also recently left ig…they deleted my account without even telling me sooo yeah wouldn't reccomend them either >_<
nice sharing
Love this: let’s cater to the HOOMANS😂So simple, but not always easy when you get wrapped up in the algorithm mumbo jumbo. It’s so funny because this is exactly what I started doing for last few weeks and shockingly I haven’t grown my sub count all that much, BUT the engagement has gone way up. So even though one video I published on,y got maybe 50 views in the first couple days, it garnered about 8 thoughtful comments about the subject matter I talked about (in this case the slog of social media) I called it “paint & ponder” and it was probably the first successful video I had ever published in regards to connecting with folks.
I’d love to see if you have channels or videos that you find to be great examples of engaging content. I happen to love @sophiemcpike for this reason. Beautifully shot art videos with thoughtful commentary. I know you’d also spoken about making vlogs that standout from the crowd of what I call “boring basic b vlogs” and I think Furry Little Peach’s Tokyo vlog was probably the best example of vlog goals. It was shot like an indie film and absolutely blew me away. Definitely check out it. Please share some examples of what you think are standouts in this oversaturated place, I’d love to know!😊
Thanks for making this video! So many of the youtube marketing channels focus on everything besides artistry. Seeing you making this when you had 1k subs and now at over 100k is truly so inspirational. I was doing SEO videos when but now am trying to make more personable content. Again thanks for making this and congrats on the insane growth!!
A lot of "grow on YouTube gurus" say we Artists must REALLY edit our videos, add a lot of B-rolls, elements, and transitions. Also some suggest using our own photography and filmography. This is what I've been doing, but clearly, you are growing on YouTube ALOT without having these overly-edited videos. This gives hope. I was curious, how is your audience view duration (retention) looking like? Is it true the audience cannot focus for more than 7 seconds without new visuals??
I needed to see this video at this moment. I saw a person and their first post had a thousand views while i only get a 100 while i have more videos uploaded and more subscribers.
Really resonated with your message, thank you!
To me, everything I want to do are creations related to nature (botanical with some forest wildlife) and farms–Thematically united, but across different media (writing, photography, and traditional art (mostly drawings, ink, and watercolor). But I acknowledge that the medium determines the audience enough that I'd be best off focusing on one category with the one subject theme (JUST nature art, JUST nature photography, etc.). The hard part is picking with narrower niche to go with, and if I have a secondary one, do that for fun and variety, but not as a main "professional" avenue.
Loveee this message of yours!! This sooooo SPOT ON!!!!!this answers my questions I’ve had for years!!!! Thank you I’m so glad I don’t just have to create search driven content ….🌹🌹🌹
Hey, I've been watching your videos for almost a month now, preparing myself for launching my own YouTube channel. Thank you for sharing all your valuable insights, secrets, tips and tricks. Can't wait to start my journey and share it with you.
the idea of making content as who i am as a person is exactly what i think of and am struggling right now. glad that you mention it. thank you for the tips and a bunch of inspiration you spread.
Mannn, she got the target audience so right 💖💖💖💖
Curious, how do u change the camera angles? Is it multiple cameras recording at once or a post production app/editing software? I always admire the videos of consistent camera angle changes but I am so focused on painting and not touching the camera lol
I'm pretty sure I started following you back when you were small and growing your following. I watched vids on your plan of growing your audience and reaching full time artist. And you DID the dang thing! So awesome to see! And I love your content. Especially your hot takes. Advice that is counter to the noise out there. I wouldn't mind seeing more studio content or maybe you could try a challenge video..like I tried art Journaling everyday for a month, filling a sketchbook in X amount of time, drawing everyday for a week, etc. I see those do well with most artists and it's nice to see what they learned from doing the challenge at the end.
Hi! Really enjoying your videos! Been on YouTube since 2019, growing slowly… but growing so I can't complain! Your videos give just the right boost when I need it!
How many cameras do you have going at the same time? Do you
Use iMovie? Where did you
Learn to make your movies and edit? And how or where do you shore it. All?
Wonderful videos! Great job!
Great video! Can you do a video of how you film your videos? That would be really great to know because as a beginner you don't even know the equipment.
When you switch to a zoom shot, do you stop what you're doing and then zoom in on the camera or do it with editing software? I'm asking because when I see it happen, it looks like you don't stop working.
Thank you for making me realize to connect to audience instead of focusing on algorithm. 😊
Your personality really shows through with your videos! It's what has me coming back, keep up the awesome work lady
Great info I appreciate your videos 👍
Great analysis! My view of content creation is also shifting in this direction. Enjoyed they way you explained your process ✨
I’ve been loving your vlog videos and new editing style, btw!
Thank you so much this was so help full hopefully i can grow my art channel as well!!! ❤ you are awesome
To the person reading this, some people want it to happen, some wish it would happen, others make it happen. Go out there and make it happen. Let's rock this together.
I feel called out again, lol. Been only uploading tutorials and stuff, there's been a severe lack of personality on my channel. Thanks for the tips! At 609 Subs right now, wish me luck!! (Also, note, I'm so proud of your growth!! You're doing so good!!)
Right now, I feel bad that I can't upload as often as most. I wish I could upload like twice weekly but I have trouble even doing a video a week because my day job has me working 6-7 days a week right now, on top of art commissions. You keep me inspired to at least keep trying though!! Seeing someone else start from scratch has really been motivating. Been here since you were less than 500, plan on being here to 1 mill!!
Thank you so much for sharing this tips. It is really helpful for me to make more video contents for humans not for algorithms 😊 Thanks 💛❤️
Thank you for this, and for setting realistic expectations and healthy goals. I'm only 3 months into my YouTube + Skillshare journey, and it feels like we're on very similar paths. 😊 I'm focusing right now on learning the craft of video creation, finding my editing style and just having fun with it. Enjoying being a tiny YouTuber, while trying to step up my game with each video. Totally agree on the importance of creating for humans first, not search algorithms. Also, good point about experimenting with different types of videos!
Excellent points. Thanks! I'm older than your targeted audience, but I'm such an art newb I might as well be younger. hmm. ideas. Overcoming Imposter Syndrome. How to decide which Idea to do if you have too many. Maybe painting outside? Basics of color. Discuss is it better to make prints, pod, license, or sell only one copy of your art? How often a day do you practice? How to find places to display your art or set up a mini art show of your own? How to connect to the inner source of creativity (like, when I wrote stories it was almost like taking dictation. Now, I often DO dream snapshots of finished art.) How to get into flow. Thank you for all you do. Your channel makes me think.
Hmmm I know you are sharing your experience.. So plz tell me one thing.. I'm artist start my you tube channel in July 2021..there is lot's of other artist on youtube so I'm going to there videos watch them and leave a comment so they also come to my video & place a comment..but they are not watch my video more then 30 seconds because my 10 mints video avarage time is just 2 mints is it enough 😔question is this, is it good for my YouTube channel….? can I grow furthermore with this strategy..
Great advice! Thank you! 👍🏾✨
Wow! That's something I haven't pondered about 🤔
Thanks so much!
