How accurate are speed testing websites like Speedtest.net and Fast.com?
Why are speed testing sites showing different results? Should they not be the same if they are indeed testing out internet speed?
It’s the first thing we test when our internet speed is terribly slow so can we that use that info as the reason to call our ISP to complain about our Internet speed?

Do a video on how to do a speed test from home using my laptop and hard wire
This is a big help for me since i am tech support i was really having a hrad time to explain this to our customer. That there are factors that speedtest is not accurate to the service theyre paying for.
I don’t trust those online speed tests. It says I’m slightly over 100 MB per second. I have a brand new modem and a brand new Netgear wireless router. High end. I have the Netgear app that allows me to run speed test. It says I’m well over 500 mbps. 568 to be exact. I recently upgraded my modem and wireless router because they were both at least eight years old. No I can run every single electronic device I have, and none of them even flinch. Not to mention I can be two blocks away and still get Internet. I have an iPad with no cellular service on it. Just thought of curiosity I went for a walk, and I made it all the way down to the stop sign, which is a Ways is a Way before it cut off.
FTC legalized internet throttling, so technically any ISP can give full speed access to speed testing sites, then put a limit of bandwidth to any website.
The short answer is you cannot trust any speed test due to the ISP's ability to throttle your internet.
Here's the problem. Most ISP's will direct you their own speed test, or one that they know always gives them a favorable result. If you're paying for 200Mbps and you consistently get results of 100Mbps across multiple speed test sites….your ISP DOESN'T CARE. You can show them 97 screenshots showing your slow speed and they won't care. All they care about is the result of the speed test that THEY WANT you to use. If that shows you're getting 200Mbps… case closed. You can't win that argument with them.
Thank you so much for your information
Well I’m paying for 1GB of internet and I’m only getting about 400mbps lol
Great information!
i dont understand this, why does it show my internet can download 170 megabytes per second, and when i download a game it just goes 20 megabytes per second?
I get between 4 and 6 mbps for download and 4mbps for upload but when i download the speed is 300kb/s
I have a question ?… when i run speed tests in multiple sites it says that i have 25 MB/s but when i download games on steam my downloads are limited to only 3 or sometime 5 MB/s do you have any suggestions mate
Very weird. Total of 20 tests. 10 on each site. SpeedofMe 167 Mbps to 34 Mbps Avg 133 Mbps. OptimumInternetSpeedTest 459 Mbps to 357 Mbps Avg 368 Mbps. Very strange that the two test sites have over 200 Mbps of difference between the two sites. I'm paying for 400 Mbps. What in the wide wide world of sports is going on? The thrill of victory or the agony of defeat?
Just saying running the same test 5 times in a row will also Supply you with five different sets of results
I am an oldgoat and have this question, does running a VPN app effect ones speed? And if so does having 2 different ones running make a difference?
Im using ookla
1:16 “Whare” in the timeline, I think you misspelled it.
i have 1 gigabit and i have 250MPHS but i found out that my ethernet cable max is 250mhps
Thanks mate, always good info from you (for us non-tech savvy guys) Grazie!
ookla says I'm getting 40 mb and netspeed says 1 mb I have no idea whats going on
I showed 28ms and I'm playing with 2kms
Come in iraq bro you will eat **
I am a internet tech for a major isp. We always try to do a wired speed test if possible. We don't throttle because we use adsl technology, other internet technology providers might throttle as a gamers etc could affect a bunch of others who share that bandwidth.
Ookla speedtest is dumb
Ping 2ms Jitter 0ms
Download 49.7 Upload 48.6
50 Mbps Connection
Here is a question. My PC is on WIFI and SpeedTest says 330 down and 24 up. My phone Note 10 plus says 56 down and 16 up. Sanity check I turned off mobile networks. Does this make sense?
thank you, i know what i do when i do the internet
bruh, why do i get 11ms ping on speedtests but get over 200ms ping on games?
In my house there is 10 mbps but downloads is 0.2
My speed tests did not use the closest server, not even close. Also SIZE of packet tests matter.I am not going to comment on latency and the source but i will mention and i am glad was also mentioned here are ISP's "throttling" our speeds and i have found that to be YES and it is also illegal where i live. When i call them up they play dumb then say it is illegal and then i respond yes and that is why i am complaining. An example,i have 40+down 10+ up and that SHOULD run 3 devices but that happens NEVER,because as soon as i move past 2 devices everything just halts/cycles and works like some broken down 56k.
I can’t load the video bruh my internet sux
my laptop shows 9 mbps download speed but my android mobile shows 21 mbps in speedtest.net. why is there difference in mobile and laptop?
Fast is the best and most accurate for real-life performance
What I want to kown is why steam uplay origin ect download at 14mb/s when I have 100mb/s ?
I get every speed from 80,350, 870, 500, 97 mbps…………………………………..No idea how I can test anything when I've yet to find 2 sites that are even relatively close.
What you could do is just get Ethernet but if you live in like the desert then just give up
Like the video but if you're taking a speed test of your internet while you have other ppl or family members within the same home using the said internet then you have way bigger problems.
Hey man we just got nbn in Australia our internet speed download is 45 mbps and our upload is 20 mbps but then I downloaded something it wasn’t how much it said it was lower then a mb and it’s wireless
My speed test says my downlaod speed is 3mb and i am the one who using the network maximum real speed 500kb 😟
What is the speed test app you're using?
ISP do some mechanism and these sites shows way more speed than they actually provide
you need to flush dns
