High speeds and low temperatures are an EV’s worst enemy when it comes to diminishing range. Alex Kersten borrowed Rory’s Nissan Leaf to to find out how quickly he could run the battery flat, by driving at top speed, in sub-zero temperatures. In the name of science, of course.

Screwed. lolol.
I have seen this in Kenya my frist time in the airport last 2021 and still see them
I really drive this car :D…
Electric cars are expensive to own and run.Must be crazy to buy one. It’s the future lol
Snacks was a bit silly (All of this took less than 15 minutes after all), but I understand you doing it for the comedy. Pretty good.
Seems mega irrelevant as a test – it's like driving an M3 at 90mph and checking out the MPG lol
Uh oh, so now we have the plus size Richard Hammond on Autotrader, how long before we have the joys of "Which is quickest: a three legged camel, a vibrator powered wheelie bin, or a hilariously bewinged and painted Dacia Sandero, for getting 10kgs of gerbil feed from Ashby-de-la-Zouch to Brighouse?"
Please repeat in an I-Pace 😅
So now we all need to know, how did you recover the car ?.
All EV manufacturers should run this test
Should have used a Tesla
I enjoyed this video. Having owned a LEAF, I had a personal interest in the outcome. As a matter of interest, what would the optimum speed on this racetrack be to get the maximum range?
It'd cost far more than the car's worth to replace the battery which is not very eco friendly, considering the rest of the car is perfectly good.
Great, but what can it tow and how long ?
how much you guess autotrader paid Alex to come on the show
If you 'jump start' the 12 volt battery you can release the parking brake. The only time my 2011 LEAF failed on a run was when the 12 volt battery went dead. After a 10 minute wait it did what most Lead/Acid batteries do and regained enough charge to operate the controls.
If you want to drive flat out everywhere, you would have lost your license already and potentially put a lot of people at risk… 😢
You can't Leaf us hanging – how do you get it out of handbrake?
it happen to my old Nissan leaf open charging flat on top speed :O, twice 😀
you should connect OBD2 adaptor and get real reading from app like LeafSpy.
Hands down the most entertaining EV test video of the year!
As you increase speed, you are also fighting aerodynamic drag. This drag increases as the square of velocity. So doubling your speed from from 45mph to 90 mph increases aerodynamic drag by 4 times. This is true for ICE cars as well as electric.
i thought this was video about battery degradation, it shouldve been so
Would like to see the test again at a constant 70mph 🙂
Leaf 24 is rediculous to try a fast drive test 🙂 interesting , prob good for the battery to give it a wee thrash 🙂 don't think my leaf 30 would do much better than that. Mines about 22kw left now at 116000 miles
41 miles is my guess before watching .
Excellent, Alex and Rory answering question we didn't know needed answering… surprising that it lasted as long as it did..
What a strange video.. I'm so glad I watched it.😬
EVs are a joke. You will realise that sooner or later.
That was seriously impressive Nissan Leaf. So you never need to panic when the light starts flashing on a motorway.
❤this 😊😊
Despite the economic downturn,I'm so happy☺️. I have been earning $ 60,200 returns from my $7,000 investment every 13days.
The cold snap was the first time I've driven my little e208 in sub zero. Can't believe the drop off in range. Went from 5 trips to work per charge to 2. Stuck with it for a 3 year lease but damn I have buyers remorse.
